Non surgical facial aesthetic procedures have become an everyday part of many women and men’s grooming regime. These treatments are quick and effective if carried out by well qualified and experienced practitioners. No surgery is required but the results can be as good and in some cases better than a “surgical facelift”. The most commonly used treatments are wrinkle eliminating injections using botulinum toxin and dermal filler injections which consist of hyaluronic acid which is found in normal skin.
Wrinkle elimination/reduction generally but more specifically, forehead creases, frown lines, crow’s feet around the eyes, wrinkles under the eyes, bunny lines on the side of the nose, lip lines, gummy smile, chin wrinkles and jowls can all be improved.
Dermal fillers are generally used to treat lines around the lips, lines between the nose and the mouth, to enhance the lips, lift the cheeks and contour the chin area as well as smoothing out scars.
The regulations in the UK are surprisingly relaxed compared to the rest of the world. For this reason there are aesthetic practitioners who have absolutely no medical training. We at 92 Dental support the government initiative to regulate the practice of these procedures and limit it to medically trained practitioners with appropriate post graduate training and qualifications and who are practising from premises regulated by the Care Quality Commission.
There are different types of botulinum toxin commercially available in the United Kingdom – we tend to use the prescription only brand Botox.
The treatment is not permanent. Depending on the area treated, dose used, and how you respond, repeat treatments will be required around every 3 – 6 months. The more often you have the treatment done the need for treatment reduces as the muscles become trained to relax.
Dermal filler is made of a smooth gel formulation of hyaluronic acid formulated with local anaesthetic for increased patient comfort. Hyaluronic acid is a substance normally found in the skin and muscles. This substance simply adds volume to an area. At 92 Dental we tend to use JUVÉDERM® XC and JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™
We believe only resorbable materials should be used so nothing is permanent. The results are instant and can last between 6 – 18 months depending on the type of filler.
Dermal fillers are safe if two important conditions are met. The practitioner must be medically trained with additional training in the use of dermal fillers and that the correct fillers are used for your situation. These two conditions go hand in hand.
